Tuesday, June 10, 2008

this is how i spent the morning. same size as yesterday. i was thing about callong them making passes at boys who where glasses but my nephew is one and that grosss and i wouldn't hit on any of the others either. i did kevin this morning and i did burt in the afternoon. (my camera battery need charging so i'll post Burt tomorrow) then sharon came by and we talked for what seemed like forever. in a good way. i cant remember the last time i felt so unhurried when talking to an instructor. Kristen was great but i apologized for taking up her time the entire time i was in her office. and the conversation didn't grind to a halt. Sharon continually had something to say. questions, criticisms, comments, there were compliments as well but any sense that she liked the art work came from her engagement with it rather than my clutching onto a closing remark or an aside. the conversation stayed technical the entire time. though we didn't talk about concept we did go over framing an idea as an installation which is the final destination i'm realizing. and i finally got a definition of the difference between drawing and painting that im still sort of chewing. the comments that are dominating my brain right now are the ones regarding the fact that in some of the images it becomes obvious that i was confronted with the limitations of the paper and so the drawing came to a close. and wouldn't it be interesting if it didn't have to. Yes it would be incredibly interesting (at least to me!) but that means finding a surface stretched fabric or panel or something and most likely a different paint....and who knows the limitation of the paper may be the only thing that keeps me from over working these things. i am goig to keep moving in the same direction for tonight. i am going to talk to sharon again tomorrow. i need to get my battery charged on my camera that is priority at the moment.

summer session

the summer session has started up. for the next three weeks i will be in an intensive studio class M-F 9-6pm. Sharon Dunn seems very engaged with individual dialogues and has specific comments for each of us. there are only 11 in the class. the intention is to dream big and fast and experiment. i think i want to figure out my support. this is a small gesso board that i had floating around. i incorporated egg yolk into the water color for more body. not sure what i think. I am just operating under the heading Representations of Masculinity. jack for short.
